About Dr Van Gieson
Dr. Van Gieson, a native Californian, earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of
California, Berkeley and his medical degree from University of California, Irvine. He completed
his residency training in Internal Medicine at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach CA and his
fellowship training in Cardiology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance CA. He completed
an additional year of training in Interventional Cardiology at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los
Angeles CA. He then returned to Long Beach in 1999 to begin his medical practice.

Dr. Van Gieson is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and certified by the American
Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease. He is a voluntary faculty member in the
Department of Medicine, UC Irvine and teaches Family Medicine residents and Cardiology
fellows at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. He is the medical director of the Coronary
Care Unit at Long Beach Memorial and the chair of the Memorial Care Cardiac Best Practice
Team; where he provides leadership improving quality of care and patient outcomes.
When not busy with his medical practice, Dr. Van Gieson enjoys spending time with his wife,
three children, extended family and friends. He is interested in travel and history. He enjoys
skiing, playing golf and following his favorite team, the California Golden Bears.
