George Nasr MD

Dr. George Nasr is an interventional cardiologist specializing in both advanced interventional procedures and comprehensive outpatient heart care. He has expertise in preventing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, from routine risk factor management to complex coronary interventions, cardiogenic shock, and mechanical circulatory support. In addition to performing advanced procedures, he provides preventive cardiology, management of stable coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, valvular heart disease, and cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and obesity. He is experienced in cardiac risk assessment, diagnostic imaging, and long-term follow-up after heart attack or cardiac procedures, helping patients optimize heart health through evidence-based medical therapy, lifestyle modification, and shared decision-making. Dr. Nasr completed his internal medicine residency and cardiovascular disease fellowship at the University of California, Irvine, where he served as Chief Fellow, followed by an interventional cardiology fellowship at UC Irvine specializing in high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), intravascular imaging, and coronary physiology.

 

Dr. Nasr has been recognized with numerous awards for clinical excellence, leadership, and teaching, including multiple Fellow of the Year honors and the prestigious Simply Better Award for compassionate care and teamwork. These accolades reflect his commitment to excellence not only in technical skill, but also in patient experience, communication, and collaboration.

 

An active contributor to clinical and academic research, Dr. Nasr has authored peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on acute coronary syndromes, peripheral artery disease, and left atrial appendage closure. His work has appeared in Cardiology Clinics, JACC, JSCAI, and PLOS ONE, and he has presented nationally at conferences such as SCAI, ACC, ASE, and CRT. His research interests include procedural safety, diagnostic accuracy, and individualized cardiovascular care.

 

Known for his warm bedside manner and approachable style, Dr. Nasr believes in developing long-term relationships with patients and guiding them through complex decisions with clarity, compassion, and trust.

 

Outside of medicine, he enjoys swimming, traveling, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

• Echocardiography: Proficient in conducting and interpreting transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).

• Nuclear Imaging: Expertise in SPECT and PET imaging for ischemic evaluation and viability studies.

• Stress Testing: Capable of performing and interpreting both exercise and dobutamine stress echocardiograms, alongside SPECT and PET nuclear imaging.

• Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) Management

• Post-MI Longitudinal Management: Expertise in follow-up and secondary prevention for patients post-myocardial infarction, including medication adherence, cardiac rehabilitation referral, risk factor control, and surveillance for angina or arrhythmias.

• Stable Coronary Artery Disease and Chronic Chest Pain: Proficient in evaluating and managing chronic angina and stable coronary artery disease using evidence-based medical therapies, non-invasive testing, and shared decision-making regarding revascularization.

• Chest Pain Syndromes (Non-Cardiac): Proficient in evaluating non-cardiac causes of chest pain including gastroesophageal reflux, musculoskeletal etiologies, and anxiety-related chest discomfort, ensuring appropriate workup and referrals.

• Cardiogenic Shock and Hemodynamic Support: Skilled in management of temporary mechanical circulatory support devices, including intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP) and Impella systems. Proficient in Swan-Ganz catheter insertion and interpretation.

• Acute Heart Failure Management: Comprehensive care for patients with acute decompensated heart failure, including diuresis, optimization of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT), and initiation of advanced therapies.

• Chronic Heart Failure Management: Skilled in the longitudinal care of patients with HFrEF and HFpEF, including initiation/titration of GDMT and advanced therapy referral.

• Arrhythmia Management: Expertise in managing complex arrhythmias using pharmacologic therapies, synchronized cardioversion, and transvenous pacemaker placement.

• Atrial Fibrillation and Anticoagulation Management: Proficient in managing rate vs rhythm control strategies, stroke risk stratification, and initiation or adjustment of anticoagulation therapy including DOACs and warfarin with bridging.

• Syncope Evaluation: Skilled in evaluating and risk stratifying syncope using a combination of history, physical exam, ambulatory monitoring, echocardiography, and tilt-table testing when indicated.

• Valvular Heart Disease: Management of patients with valvular disorders with experience in pre-operative assessment and longitudinal surveillance.

• Pericardial Diseases: Diagnosis and management of pericardial effusion, tamponade (including emergent pericardiocentesis), and constrictive pericarditis.

• Pulmonary Embolism and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Management with thrombolytics, catheter-directed therapy, and systemic anticoagulation.

• Multidisciplinary ICU Management: Coordination with intensivists and subspecialists for critically ill patients.

• Hypertensive Emergencies: Management of hypertensive crises including pulmonary edema, aortic syndromes, and eclampsia-related complications.

• Hyperlipidemia Management: Skilled in risk-based stratification and management using statins, PCSK9 inhibitors, ezetimibe, and emerging therapies.
